What Prophecy Prayer?
Prophecy prayer is a type of prayer where the person praying speaks words of prophecy or divine revelation into a situation or over a person. The focus is on hearing from God and speaking His will and purposes into a situation or over a person’s life.
In prophecy prayer, the person praying may feel led to speak out specific scriptures, words of knowledge, or prophetic messages that they sense God is revealing to them. The goal is to bring encouragement, comfort, and direction to the person or situation being prayed over.
Here are a few Bible verses related to prophecy:
- “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” – Revelation 19:10b
- “But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.” – 1 Corinthians 14:3
- “For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.” – 1 Corinthians 14:31
- “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” – Joel 2:28
- “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” – 2 Peter 1:20-21
In prophecy prayer, it is important to seek God’s guidance and discernment before speaking any words of prophecy. The goal is to bring glory to God and to build up and encourage those who are being prayed over.
